MAY 2008 - Weight Loss

I'm having a most enjoyable time - being a hypnotherapy client, instead of being the therapist.

Some years ago I used to weigh 98kg. After I finished training as a hypnotherapist the first thing I did was sort myself out. So I devised the weight loss course that has become the basis of my work with weight loss clients.

I achieved my goal of 80kg over the first year and have maintained that weight or less, easily and comfortably ever since. I have also enjoyed completeing five women's triathlons and the Auckland Half-Marathon.

However as my 60th year approaches I've decided it's time to achieve a slimmer, fitter 70 kg figure, so I've called in another hypnotherapist Sue Leech (09 411 9696) for extra support. It is very empowering to discuss personal issues in complete confidence and then relax into hypnotherapy as they are worked with.

The kilos will be marching off shortly, and while I'm waiting for them to go I've increased my early morning gym attendance. I really enjoy the virtuous feeling this gives me. My fat percentage is dropping dramatically too.

I'm also clearing my mind of mental blocks that hinder me eating the healthy, moderate way I want to eat. I've changed my emotional crutch of food and chocolate for a far better way of dealing with stress. (In my case I've chosen to seek more love, support and care from God). So, it doesn't matter whether I'm the hypnotherapist helping a client achieve their goal, or whether I'm relaxing in the chair being helped to use the power of my mind to achieve my own goal - hypnotherapy is great!

OCTOBER 2007 - Spring thoughts

Well, Spring is definitely here and I spent a pleasant warm Sunday afternoon making a new vegetable garden and filling it with lovely garden mix. Can anyone play in fresh, warm soil and not feel great?

Next step was planting seeds in egg cartons on the window sill and of course a visit to a plant nursery.

What does all this have to do with hypnotherapy? So many clients come for relief from anxiety, stress and depression. Hypnotherapy will help (try my CD "Happiness and Contentment") and so will a pleasant activity in the sun and fresh air, becoming part of the wonderful world around us and growing our own organic food for our future health and pleasure.

Try it. If you don't have a garden you'll be amazed what can be achieved with a pot or window box.

MARCH 2007

I’ve been reading a very motivational book “What no one ever tells you about ..Blogging and Podcasting” by Ted Demopoulos. It’s prompted me to keep up to date with these newsletters. A couple of emails enquiring if I was “still here” was a further prompt. So….if I don’t stay motivated I’ll find a hypnotherapist to help!

A lot has been happening in the hypnotherapy world in NZ and all of it very positive. Eg Laurence Follas did an excellent display of hypnotherapy on TVNZ 20/20 programme. The Paul McKenna TV series aroused a lot of interest, and the NZWW ran a series of articles over three months comparing Weight Loss with hypnotherapy (me), with a personal trainer, a low GI diet and SureSlim, which again prompted many people to use hypnotherapy.

Phobias
There are many phobias that trouble people. One of the most common involves spiders. People are often quite comfortable with the “Daddy Long Legs” or Crane type. However they can be reduced to a trembling, fearful state by even the thought of other spider species.
One of my clients was unable to travel through Avondale at all, because the client had heard of the large Avondale spider sculpture there. I often wonder whether the Warehouse realizes how many spider phobic customers it doesn’t get over the Halloween period while spiders decorate its stores!
The good news—phobias are generally very responsive to hypnotherapy and people can make a complete recovery from their phobia.

Childbirth and Hypnotherapy.

It is with pleasure and excitement that my husband and I are looking forward to two new grand children this year. One in Ireland and one in N.Z.
Hypnotherapy can help pregnancy and childbirth to be a happy time for both Mother and baby.
Positive visualization, deep relaxation and learning natural anesthesia are all wonderful assets at this time.

Breathe Better
Weather-wise and health wise it’s been a rough October. Many people have had an unpleasant chest infection that has aggravated asthma issues. Still, every cloud has a silver lining and I have created a new CD, “Breathe Better”, that has been a great help to both myself and other clients with breathing difficulties. I also recommend learning diaphragm breathing as a worthwhile aid to increasing lung capacity and health.

The CD “Better Breathing” is available for $25.

BABY CONGRATULATIONS.

Congratulations to our latest family who used hypnotherapy to achieve a more comfortable labour. The beautiful baby girl weighed in at a healthy eight pounds plus. Neither Mum nor Dad required medication for pain relief at any stage...A wonderful result for all concerned.

Hypnotherapy for childbirth involves 4 appointments and covers self anaesthesia, time distortion and deep relaxation. There is a CD included with each session for ongoing self hypnosis at home.

ANXIETY and STRESS.

Many women are realizing the benefits of hypnotherapy in their life.

Anxiety and stress are major issues. These days many women care for both their own children and step children, while also working outside the home, settling into new relationships, dealing with ex-partners and trying to fulfill society’s expectations. It’s not surprising that at times they feel they just can’t cope.

Hypnotherapy can help! Total, deep relaxation is what many women need. Time for themselves to allow their bodies and minds to relax and heal from the day’s stress. Positive feedback to give them strength and confidence.

When women have had a hypnotherapy session they generally feel wonderful. One client described it as feeling so relaxed it was as though her mind had been massaged.

Most appointments include a CD of the actual hypnotherapy so that the client can continue ongoing relaxation/self-hypnosis at home. If you would like to know more about hypnotherapy for Anxiety phone Pat @ (09)8272652.

Assertiveness

The course for increased assertiveness is proving very effective. One client found it a great help to her in a court case she was bringing. Other clients find it helps hugely both in personal relationships and at work. Assertiveness is having the confidence to voice your opinion clearly while feeling confidant and comfortable.

Special points of interest:

The 6 week weight loss course continues to be popular and successful. The course can be done either as an individual or in a small group. It achieves a gradual, steady weight loss that will continue long after your course is over. You need to be committed to attending all 6 sessions for best results.

CHILDREN, ADHD and ASPERGERS.
An 8 year old child recently was brought to the clinic to see if hypnotherapy could help the child cope better at school and gain more confidence. This child had been medically diagnosed as ADHD and as having border line Aspergers.

Ritalin was being used to help control general behaviour.

As Aspergers like attributes generally run in families I asked if any one had it. At first the answer was “No” but when I asked if anyone in the extended family was very rigid in the ways they liked thing done eg dinner must be at 6 o’clock . The parents immediately identified others in the extended family.

As is usual with this condition the young client was very intelligent and alert and answered all my questions as clearly as any adult would have. The child constantly moved, fidgited, and looked downwards when speaking to me. This too is part of the syndrome and should not be interpreted as a lack of attention. If such children are told to keep still, that would absorb all their concentration and they would be unable to achieve the work we needed to do.

People with this syndrome need to know exactly what is going to happen at all times and they do not like change of any type at all. So, before we started I explained who I was, the exact programme for the appointment, and checked the young client was happy to stay. I then asked if the client wanted the parents to stay or not. The parents were told they could go….I wasn’t aware until much later that they had sat in their car for 20 minutes fully expecting their child to come screaming or running out as that was the usual reaction to anything new.

I asked the client to sit in the comfortable chair, said to choose whether to have open or shut eyes (varied) and I used a “cloud car” induction (Hypnotic Suggestions & metaphors ed. D.Corydon Hammond) followed by an ego strengthening script for enjoying school and other children.

While under hypnosis the child’s movements almost entirely ceased, ulike the previous continual movement although at no time did I suggest keeping still.

After the second visit he began to apply the self hypnosis skills he had learned. When a situation occurred at school that previously would have caused a major loss of control, he just said “I’m going to get in my cloud car,” and went and sat quietly by a wall in the class room for sometime so that the whole situation was diffused. The teacher also had previously asked his parents what his medication had been changed to as he was so much more settled.

This is just one example of how hypnotherapy, with its relaxation, positive visualisation and exploration of situations can be a great help for many young students with behaviour and self esteem issues.
